Around eighteen years ago, I started this blog to capture the wonderful ride of raising two daughters with my wife. It’s been exactly a year since my last post—one full trip around the sun, and then some.
If you’re wondering why the blogposts suddenly stopped, well, let’s just say the past year was my own personal season of being a little lost. Fittingly, the blog has been as quiet as the island in the opening scenes of Lost, the early-2000s ABC show that my wife and I binge-watched when she was pregnant with our first Rising Daughter.
Life threw me a plot twist: I was unexpectedly “transitioned out” of my job, and the search for new work quickly became my full-time focus. Call it a mandatory sabbatical, a reset, or just a guy trying to keep the family moving forward. Then, I had to get used to my new gig. The blog took a back seat.
Meanwhile, our teen daughters kept their steady development—taller, sharper, funnier, more irreverent, and a whole lot more private. They’re no longer the little kids mugging for the camera or spilling every thought. Now they’re young women with their own secrets, skincare rituals that have overtaken the bathroom, and the teen mood meltdowns. They’re charting their own paths, and I’m learning to respect the boundaries that come with that.
So, what’s next for the Rising Daughters blog? I still want to document the journey—just with a lighter touch. Expect reflections on parenting, family life, and the occasional (daughter-approved) update. I may also throw in a few non-political thoughts on the world around us, because let’s be honest: the current vibe is as unpredictable as any episode of Lost.
Like the castaways, we may not know exactly where we are or where we’re going, but we’re still in it together.
Here’s to new beginnings.
