The Power of Four

Usually I’d be writing about our latest travel adventure, which was a family vacation to Cancun, Mexico, in mid-March. However, we are all in unusual and unsettling times. The COVID-19 virus pandemic has affected the entire world and how it works. For the Rising Daughters, COVID-19 has induced momentous changes to our family and our daily activity. We are coping with the virus by harnessing the power of four.

First thing: we are very lucky. I’m fortunate to be working from home full-time. We are all healthy and safe. People are still working amid the threat of the virus in supermarkets, hospitals, and other essential social functions. They are the reason we can remain safe and comfortable at home. But there is no doubt the virus has upended our family’s usual routines and patterns. That disruption may end up being for the better in some ways. But it still sucks to be holed up for weeks without end and no finish line in sight.
I first wrote about the “power of four” back in 2011 to mark this family’s moment in time through a snapshot of our eyes. I could never have guessed, as I took the same photos nearly ten years later, that a deadly viral pandemic would engulf the world. More than ever, the power of four means family solidarity amid the disorder.

“We are all in this together” starts at home.
